Plymouth Youth Dance Company Audition Day – Saturday 13th September 2025 10AM – 1PM

Plymouth Youth Dance Company is a partnership project, created and managed by Barbican Theatre Plymouth, Far Flung CIC, Plymouth Dance CIC and Theatre Royal Plymouth.

Building on the history of the various iterations of Plymouth Youth Dance Company over the past 40 years, the partners have come together to provide the best experience and opportunities possible for members of the city’s youth dance company.

The focus of Plymouth Youth Dance Company is predominantly Contemporary Dance.

There will be 3 terms of 5 sessions, which will take place on Saturdays, 10.00AM to 1.00PM on the dates specified on the next page. In addition to the term dates, there will be opportunities to perform, attend performances and career enhancing opportunities. Attendance and participation will be mutually agreed.

These sessions will be led by the Artistic Director: Philly Rule

Philly is a freelance Dance Artist from Devon, facilitating contemporary and creative dance for young people for over 7 years. She graduated from Middlesex University in 2016, where she focused on developing her choreographic practice. Since then, she has produced and delivered creative movement experiences in community and educational settings nationwide, while also collaborating and working alongside a range of artists who continue to inspire and shape her work. Philly takes pride in her co-creative and collaborative approach to movement, making it her mission to nurture the next generation of dancers from the South West by supporting their growth – not only technically, but also in creativity and self-expression, in both dance and everyday life.

Criteria – Have to be able to commit to the dates and times specified below, between the ages of 14-19, have at least 3 years dance experience e.g. through School, private dance school, youth dance group etc, considering dance in Higher Education and/or a career in dance.

FEES: The cost per term is £100 (a total of £300 for the year).
Please note, that there are a number of discretionary bursaries available, please indicate on the next page if you require a bursary.
