Sophie Hocking
Co-Founder
Sophie, originally from Plymouth, grew up surrounded and inspired by the incredible community practitioners in Plymouth. Her passion for dance began early, landing her first paid contract in community dance (with Plymouth Dance!) at 17 in 2008, which ignited her commitment to the field.
She studied at De Montfort University, earning a First-Class Honours in Dance in 2012. Her journey with Moving Together CIC in Leicester started as a volunteer, where her enthusiasm and dedication helped her rise to the role of Co-Director. In this position, she focused on stragetic decisions, funding bid writing, producing events and facilitating community dance in schools and for individuals with special needs, dementia, and Parkinson’s.
In 2017, Sophie achieved a PGCE in Primary Education with distinction from the University of Leicester, earning the ‘Best Student of the Year’ award. She then taught in primary schools in Leicester and Ivybridge from 2020 to 2023.
Currently, Sophie is a Freelance Practitioner at Plymouth Dance, alongside her own tuition business. Her passion for dance and education drives her to make a positive impact in the community, and she is dedicated to inspiring and uplifting others through her work.
